Atlantic Canadian Organic Regional Network

Since 2000, Atlantic Canadian Organic Regional Network (ACORN) has been the key organization for information on organic agriculture, eating organics, and connecting all the parts together. From seed to farmer to consumer, ACORN works to bring the whole picture together – making food choices healthier and more environmentally responsible.

 

Canadian Agricultural Safety Association

 

The Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA) works with partners to support initiatives that equip producers, their families and their workers with the information and tools needed to make farms a safe place to live, work and play.

 

Canadian Federation of Agriculture

 

The Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) was formed in 1935 as a unified voice to speak on behalf of Canadian farmers. Their work continues today as a farmer-funded, national umbrella organization comprising of provincial general farm organizations and national and interprovincial commodity groups. They represent producers of all commodities, who operate farms of all sizes, and represent approximately 190,000 Canadian farm families from coast to coast.

 

Chicken Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador

 

The purpose and intent of Chicken Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador (CFNL) is to provide for the effective promotion, control and regulation of the production and marketing of chicken within the province, including the prohibition of production or marketing of chicken.

 

Conservation Corps Newfoundland and Labrador

 

Conservation Corps Newfoundland and Labrador (CCNL) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing youth with training and employment in environmental and cultural heritage conservation.

Egg Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador

 

The vision of Egg Farmers NL is to maintain and build upon our growing, cost efficient egg industry that sustainably supplies the Newfoundland and Labrador market for table eggs and egg product.

An umbrella for farm business management, Farm Management Canada is the only national organization dedicated exclusively to the development and delivery of leading-edge resources, information and tools to support farm business success. With over 25 years’ experience, Farm Management Canada has the expertise and experience to support your needs.

 

Farmers for Climate Solutions

 

Farmers for Climate Solutions is a national farmer and rancher led coalition that advances pragmatic solutions to support farmers and ranchers in making the transition to low emissions, high resilience approaches to agriculture. Their Farm Resilience Mentorship Program, or FaRM, is delivered in partnership with regional farm organizations and Indigenous partners across the country. FaRM is a free farmer-to-farmer learning hub offering online resources, workshops, on-farm field days, mentorship, and farmer networks to help scale-up adoption of Beneficial Management Practices (BMPs) like Advanced Nitrogen Management, Cover Cropping, and Advanced Grazing Systems.

 

Food First NL

 

Food First NL works with communities in Newfoundland & Labrador to ensure everyone has access to affordable, healthy, and culturally appropriate food. They are a provincial, non-profit organization that collaborates with a network of 300 like-minded organizations and individuals to improve food security in NL. Their monthly newsletter provides a wealth of information and resources.

Fruit and Vegetable Growers of Canada

 

Fruit and Vegetable Growers of Canada represent growers across the country and advocate on important issues that impact Canada’s fresh produce sector. We are the voice of the Canadian fruit and vegetable industry.

 

Fruit & Vegetable Growers NL

 

The Fruit & Vegetable Growers of Newfoundland & Labrador (FVGNL) is a non-profit industry organization with the mandate to lead and support organic and conventional growers and processors of fruit, vegetables, berries, and sod.

 

Labrador Agricultural Association

 

The Labrador Agricultural Association (LAA) has a mission to support farmers and growers as they build an abundant, sustainable and accessible food system in Labrador.

 

NL Beekeeping Association

 

With a vision to represent and be the voice of beekeepers and the beekeeping industry in Newfoundland and Labrador, the NL Beekeeping Association supports bee health and the beekeeping industry.

 

NL Dairy Farmers

 

NL Dairy Farmers supports milk and cheese producers across Newfoundland and Labrador.

 

NL Cattlemens Association

 

The NL Cattlemens Association is a provincially registered not-for-profit organization that represents the best interests of NL cattle and beef producers. They are registered and recognized by the Newfoundland & Labrador Government’s Department of Fisheries, Forestry & Agriculture as well as the Newfoundland & Labrador Federation of Agriculture. 

 

NL Federation of Agriculture

 

The Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Agriculture (NLFA) is an organization which represents farmers and farmer groups in the province. Their motto is “Farmers Helping Farmers”, and they believe that by sharing information and speaking with a united voice, farmers can work more effectively for the betterment of the agriculture industry, and for the improvement of our province as a whole.

 

NL Fur Breeders Association

 

NLFBA represents Newfoundland and Labrador’s dynamic and growing fur farming industry and the people working on mink and fox breeding farms spread throughout the province.

Organic Agriculture Centre of Canada

 

Organic Agriculture Centre of Canada (OACC) facilitates and leads research and education supporting organic producers, consumers and other organic stakeholders to foster sustainable communities.

 

Organic Federation of Canada

 

Dedicated to the growth of the Canadian organic industry, the Organic Federation of Canada has a mandate to maintain and interpret the Canadian Organic Standard and to manage scientific research in organic production in Canada.

 

Pye Centre for Northern Boreal Food Systems

 

Part of the Labrador Campus of Memorial University, The Pye Centre’s vision is to be a vibrant community-led hub of leading Northern-focused food systems research, education, community connections, production, and distribution in Labrador.

 

Sheep Producers Association NL

 

Primary lamb producers who work together to bring local products to market, support industry growth and the voice of the sheep industry of NL.

 

St. John’s Food Projects

 

Food systems programming led by Food First NL in the St. John’s Metro area. The Food on the Move program works with community centres and the Newfoundland and Labrador Public Libraries to create welcoming spaces for fresh food shopping across St. John’s.

 

Western Environment Centre

 

The Western Environment Centre (WEC) is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit, environmental organization serving Western Newfoundland. They strive to inspire a community of environmentally active citizens through education, action, and advocacy. Their projects engage members in hands-on sustainability programs and their knowledge-building workshops help to connect members with greener living.

 

Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms

 

Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) links visitors with organic farmers, promote an educational and cultural exchange and builds a global community conscious of ecological farming practices. The founding idea of WWOFF is to facilitate exchanges around sustainable living and organic agriculture in pursuit of living in harmony with nature.

Birdhouse Garden Market

 

Lake Melville’s premier garden center. They carry produce from their farm and other Labrador farmers.

 

Breakwater Farm and Market

 

Located in Placentia, Breakwater Farm and Market provides an opportunity for everyone to have access to fresh foods, homemade crafts and local products in their community.

 

CBS Market

 

The CBS Market takes place at the Lodge Conception in Chamberlains (2639 Topsail Road) every 2nd Sunday, 10am-2pm. It welcomes all local farmers, food producers, artisans, and craftspeople.

 

Community Outdoor Market

 

The Community Outdoor Market is a not-for-profit volunteer run organization that is committed to creating a venue that allows farmers within the Upper Lake Melville Region to come together on a regular basis to sell their fruit, vegetables, eggs, and other produce directly to their customers. In addition to farmers, the market holds the motto “Make it, Bake it, Grow it” and therefore allows for a small percentage of the vendors to be non-for-profit and organic/green.

 

Deep Roots Farm and Market

 

They sell produce grown on their farm in Cormack and other products from the local area. Dedicated to improving food self-sufficiency in Newfoundland and Labrador.

 

Exploits Valley Community Market

 

Supports local farmers, bakers, makers & crafters all year long in Central NL.

 

Farm and Market Clarenville

 

A non-profit, seasonal market comprising 35 booths offering fresh, local produce, flowers, prepared foods, and handcrafted items. The Farm and Market Clarenville features five 80ft raised growing beds in the back for growing specialty crops and an additional eight beds in the front lot, a greenhouse for starter plants and seasonal crops, and an operating Elliston-style root cellar.

 

Killick Coast Food Hub

 

The Killick Coast Food Hub connects consumers with multiple small farms and producers. They help food lovers save time, skip the big box stores, and discover delicious brands closer to home. Works with producers along the Killick Coast and across the island.

 

Makers & Gardeners Market

 

Based in the Codroy Valley, The M&G gives local craftspeople & gardeners a place to sell & showcase what they grow and create.

 

Norris Arm Farmers Market

 

The Norris Arm Farm Market connects people with locally harvested and homemade foods and goods.

 

Stephenville Farmers Market

 

Farmers Market in Stephenville that operates on Saturdays.

 

St. John’s Farmers’ Market

 

The St. John’s Farmers’ Market is run by a nonprofit co-operative of vendors and consumers who strive to create, maintain and support a weekly Farmers’ Market and all that it represents.

The Western NL Food Hub is an online store and physical packaging and pickup location that connects customers and local producers in Western Newfoundland.

Government of NL - Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Agriculture

 

The Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture aligns the province’s natural renewable resources of fisheries, aquaculture, forestry, agriculture and agrifoods. The department is responsible for supporting the advancement and development of these industries. The provincial government works with industry and stakeholders to achieve sustainable economic growth in all sectors for the benefit of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.

 

Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership

 

The Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP) is a new $3.5-billion, 5-year agreement (April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2028), between the federal, provincial and territorial governments to strengthen the competitiveness, innovation, and resiliency of the agriculture, agri‐food and agri‐based products sector. The agreement includes $1 billion in federal programs and activities and $2.5 billion in cost-shared programs and activities funded by federal, provincial and territorial governments.

Government of NL Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture: Agriculture Programs and Funding

 

The Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture aligns the province’s natural renewable resources of fisheries, aquaculture, forestry, agriculture and agrifoods. The department is responsible for supporting the advancement and development of these industries.

 

On-Farm Climate Action Fund

 

The On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF) is an initiative to help farmers improve soil health, protect soil from erosion, and tackle climate change by adopting beneficial management practices that store carbon and reduce greenhouse gases. The program offers funding to help farmers implement nitrogen management, cover cropping, and rotational grazing practices. In addition, the OFCAF program supports professional training for farmers, agronomists, and certified crop advisers. Perennia Food and Agriculture Corporation is a partner organization delivering OFCAF funding and programming to farmers and agronomists in Nova Scotia and in Newfoundland and Labrador.

In NL, SCAP initiatives aim to improve environmental performance, adapt to climate change, and reduce GHG emissions; support innovation, secondary processing, and public trust; promote marketing and sector growth; and enhance sector resiliency, diversity, equity and inclusion.
